All about Air Sampling Smoke Detection

When it comes to keeping your commercial building safe, there are a number of different systems that can be installed to protect against commercial fires. One of the more unique, but quickly growing, systems is a an air sampling smoke detection system. In environments where you traditional smoke detection would only alert to a fire already in progress, high sensitivity air sampling smoke detection recognizes the signs of a fire, sometimes even before the fire has ignited.

Air-Sampling-Smoke-Detection

An air sampling smoke detection system uses different methods to sense and alert you if smoke is present somewhere in the building. This type of early detection allows those within a commercial building to exit quickly and safely. Early detection will also allow those within the building to notify fire personnel quickly to prevent suppression system discharges, which could cost your company money. The air sampling smoke detection system is constantly sampling the air in each room of your building, and can detect changes in the air that could mean a fire.

There are three different types of air sampling smoke detection systems to choose from. These are:

  1. Ionization- This type of detection system alerts occupants within a building of combustible fires that occur quickly and without warning. This is typically found within a kitchen setting due to the risk of grease and cooking fires.
  2. Photoelectric- This type of detection system is best at detecting smoke occurring from a slow building fire.
  3. Dual Sensor- This type of system is the most recommended within a commercial building because it combines both ionization and photoelectric detection systems to provide your building with the highest level of smoke detection possible.
