In life, it is always good to have a spare. We have spare pens, spare tires, and even a spare set of keys for when we get locked out. But do you have a spare sprinkler head in your office supply room? If not, you should probably think about ordering some from Fireline. According to NFPA 13, you should have spare sprinkler heads on the premises so if any of your sprinkler systems have been operated or damaged, they can be replaced promptly. So how many spare sprinkler heads do you need? Let’s take a look!
Why Do I Need Spares?
Fire sprinklers have evolved tremendously since they were first installed in businesses. Because of this evolution, these automatic systems have become more effective and more specialized for the specific needs of your business. So when installing new sprinkler systems in your business, you may notice different head positions, temperature ratings, finishes, thread sizes, and orifice sizes for different parts of your sprinkler system. There are thousands of different variations of sprinkler heads. But in order to replace a sprinkler head in your business, it is important to replace it with the exact type of head required. Even if you know the specifications for your sprinkler heads, not having one on hand could leave your business unprotected in the event of another fire.
How Many Spare Sprinkler Heads Do You Need?
A number of spare sprinkler heads you need for your business vary depending on the number of actual sprinkler heads in your building. According to the NFPA 13, if you have 300 sprinklers or less, you should have no fewer than six spare heads; if you have 300 to 1,000 sprinkler heads, you should have no fewer than 12; and if you have more than 1,000 sprinklers, you should have no fewer than 24 spares. These sprinkler heads should be kept in a cabinet where the temperature will not exceed 100 degrees.
Whether you are installing a new sprinkler system or are just thinking about what to do in the event of a fire, it is important to have some spare sprinkler heads around. For more information on ordering spare sprinkler heads, call Fireline today!
