The Importance of Fire Extinguishers in Commercial Kitchens

There are many types of class K extinguishers that you can equip your commercial kitchen with; dry chemicals and wet chemicals are two possibilities, as are several different sizes.

Using Class K Extinguishers

Wait until the hood fire suppression system or other appliances have activated their built-in fire suppression systems. If that hasn’t done much to stop or contain the fire, then it’s time to move in with the class K extinguishers. By doing this, you increase your chances of putting out the fire, or at least giving everyone else more time to escape the building as first responders begin to arrive.

Adding Protection

Ultimately, adding more fire protection solutions to your commercial kitchen is in your best interests. Larger kitchens will by necessity need more than one extinguisher, and even in smaller kitchens, investing in multiple canisters is a good idea in case one should fail unexpectedly. The presence of more fryers and other vital equipment also means that you’ll need to account for them when installing or servicing the fire extinguishers in your building.
