Types of Fire Sprinkler Heads

Sprinkler Heads

What kind of sprinkler system heads would work in your building?

Whether you are building a new commercial facility, updating a new one, you are going to need to know something about sprinkler heads. While there are four different types of sprinkler heads to choose from, each head is different and should be considered for your space. Let’s take a moment to look at each of these sprinkler heads and how they could protect your business.

Pendant Sprinkler Heads

Pendant sprinkler heads are the most common heads for your sprinkler systems. These heads extend from the ceiling to provide you with as much coverage as possible for your commercial and residential space. When these heads are activated, a stream of water is sent downward onto the deflector, which disperses the water throughout the room.

Concealed Pendant Heads

Concealed pendant heads are recessed into the ceiling and covered with a decorative cap to make them blend into your ceiling. While it may seem like the cap could get in the way of the fire protection aspect, this cap is specifically designed to fall away 20 degrees prior to the activation of the sprinkler system. Once the sprinkler head is activated, it will drop down from the ceiling and the water is dispersed.

Upright Sprinkler Heads

Upright sprinkler heads point up toward the ceiling of your facility instead of the downward direction of the pendant heads. These heads are generally used in mechanical rooms or other inaccessible rooms. They are used to provide better coverage between obstructions like air ducts.

Side Wall Heads

Side wall sprinkler heads are used in areas that are tight on space like hallways. Since pendant sprinkler heads disperse water from side to side, they are not able to cover these small spaces effectively. But with sidewall sprinkler heads, your sprinkler system will spray in a half-circle pattern, which will cover the entire area.

Sprinkler systems can help reduce property damage, injuries, and loss of life but they must be outfitted by the proper sprinkler systems. For more information on designing a fire sprinkler system with Fireline, call us  today!
